The organization L'œil Neuf
("Fresh Perspective") is a group of collectors of modern art who seek
to improve its standing:
Visual arts –-painting,
sculpture—are established elements of our culture. During the first half of the
20th century, Paris was the center of European and World culture
largely due to the presence of foreign artists, primarily European, who gave
freely of their talent and native culture. The cross fertilization of talent
among them led to a remarkable explosion of creativity. Since the Second World
War, the USA has gained in importance in the art world. Yet, the European
artistic legacy continues to be on display and widely admired at exhibits, in
art museums and at art festivals throughout the world.
Art plays a growing role in
daily life in guise of advertising, fashion, industrial design, architecture
and in popular culture. Nevertheless, just a few view art as a source of
intellectual enrichment and inspiration. The young –-and the not-so-young –
frequently lack the background needed to appreciate the arts, causing many to
reject them. It is as shocking not to know Matisse, Pollock and Warhol as to
ignore Mozart or the Beatles, above all in professional and family circles.
This state of things has
prompted us to create the L’oeil Neuf Association (“Fresh Perspective’’) with
the primary goals of establishing an educational program consisting of the
following:
1°) An itinerant
educational exhibit focusing on the different 20th century movements
in the visual arts. It is composed primarily of posters, lithographs and
reproductions of paintings illustrating the evolution of artistic movements from
Impressionism to the present avant-guard. Each movement, painting and artist is
placed in context via explanatory texts. Educational materials for teachrs is
offered.
2°) An internet site and
cassettes in several languages
--It is time to add colour
to our world and to disseminate modern art in public places, particularly in
hospitals and retirement homes, where both the patrons and the employees would
benefit from its presence.
--It is time to provide, in
conjunction with the educational system, grounding in modern art to young
people
--It is time to give a
voice to both art amateurs and collectors who constitute the core of the art
market but who seldom have channels to make their voices heard
-- It is time to exit the
medias' pre-paved highway to discover original works of art which await the
curious and the open minded
