There is among the general public a burst, an interest to fathom out modern art
as showed by the huge popular success of exhibitions devoted to important
artists. But, often, many people do not take full advantage of these
exhibitions for lack of reference points: what is the importance, the original
feature, the merit of that artist? What is his place in the art history?
Besides artists of unanimously recognized importance, there is, especially in
France, many artists of great interest whose work exhibits original feature,
who laid their stone to the art history, and, nevertheless, are known by a more
or less broad, limited circle of connoisseurs. For some we expect the worse,
for they are sinking into oblivon. Others have found in foreign countries very
better feedbacks than in their native land. It is one of our major purposes to
put the limelight on them.
